Meneri Bhali Hydro electric project harnesses the potential energy of the water flowing down the river Bhagirathi between Maneri and Uttarkashi. Maneri Bhali Project Stage-1 has been completed and the power house is generating since October, 1984. The scheme comprises :-

A 39 m. high and 127 m long concrete gravity dam across river Bhagirathi near Maneri with four number spillway spans of 13 m. width & 14.55 m. high separated by 4 m. thick piers. The spillway gates are of radial (tainter) type fitted with electrically operated hoists. The energy dissipaters are slotted roller bucket type.
Intake works comprising three bays of 9.00 m. wide, byepass channel on the left flank and a sedimentation tank comprising eight no. hoppers 15.00 x 15.70 m, four in 2 rows to remove the bed load which is passed back to the river downstream of the dam.
A 8.631 km. long 4.75 m. diameter circular concrete lined power tunnel.
A 69 m. high 11 m. diameter underground surge shaft complex of restricted office type comprising 316 m. long, 6m. diameter upper expansion chamber 89.5 m. long 6m. diameter lower expansion chamber and 7.0 x 4.5m. wide, 118m. ventilation tunnel.
About 456 m. long single steel lined pen stock of 3.8m. diameter having three branches of 2.5 m. diameter having three branches of 2.5m diameter just upstream of the power house.
A surface power station near Uttarkashi, housing three francis type machines of 30 MW capacity each, i.e. total installed capacity of 90 MW. The firm power is 38.23 MW and 546 million KWH are generated annually. Open tailrace channel about 120 m long joins river Bhagirathi at Uttarkashi.
